- Omphalocele aka Examphalos
- Midline abdominal wall defect covered by membranes
- Umbilical cord inserts on the membrane covering the herniated contents
- Giant omphalocele: >5cm defect or >50% liver involvement
- Omphalocele membrane: Inner peritoneum, middle Wharton jelly and outer amnion
- Can get complicated in utero due to membrane rupture
- Differentiate from physiologic gut herniation:11 to 12 weeks and doesn’t extend more than one cm
